Among the six seasons that prevail in India in a year, early winter or hemant ritu is a period blessed with a lot of unique features. It is not only the period for eating dry fruits or using quilts or making use of room heaters, it is a golden period during in which one can regain his health. Ayurvedic texts say that the cold layer that wraps the whole body from outside does not allow the Agni of the body to make an exit. It gets on concentrating and concentrating inside the body and thus helps in digesting the heavy food. Almost all types of feasible food is digested. Light food and substances that vitiate vayu should be avoided in winter season or hemant ritu. Exposure to cold wind should be avoided in winter season, while care should be taken not to use barley mixed with water in winter season.
